About Sosaiete Aoga Amata Samoa i Aotearoa Incorporated (SAASIA)

Brief History

The Sosaiete Aoga Amata I Aotearoa (SAASIA) under the Charities Commission and an Incorporated Society was established in 1989 with initial Aoga Amata growth in the mid-1980s. Since its establishment, SAASIA has provided advisory, advocacy, professional learning and development (PLDs) and resource production services to Aoga Amata teachers, parents, governance and management boards and communities. SAASIA also provide the same role to mainstream Early Learning Services (ELS), organisations and government agencies. 

Our Network

SAASIA is a national network of Samoan early childhood centers, spanning Auckland, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, and Christchurch. Our governing board, comprised of eleven regional representatives, is bolstered by the support of esteemed patrons. This diverse team brings a wealth of expertise in education, research, Samoan culture and language, the government sector, and community experience.

Support

We offer a wide array of support services: from professional learning and development and national workshops to counseling, mentoring, and advocacy. These services are essential to empower and equip our educators, governance and management boards ensuring the delivery of high-quality Samoan ECE services.

Strategic Objectives

Language, Culture, and Christianity

To promote Aoga Amata using Fa'amalama o le Tofamanino a Samoa (Samoan worldview).

ECE Curriculum

To provide quality advice, professional learning and development and curricular activities on Aoga Amata curriculum. Supporting the ongoing training of Samoan teachers, the use of Samoan language in the curriculum, and the adaptation of national curriculum guidelines.

Resources

To be a national and international manufacturer of Aoga Amata learning and teaching resources that supports the SAASIA Philosophy. These include translation services and publications.

Research

To lead research on Aoga Amata and other areas influencing children's teaching and learning. This includes establishing a publishing arm to support resources as well as research.
