Since its establishment in 1989, SAASIA has pioneered the development of Samoan cultural and natural resources. We’ve been at the forefront in delivering professional development to Aoga Amata and other Early Learning services, translating documents into the Samoan language, and undertaking crucial research. Our goal is to ensure the sustainability of Samoan Aoga Amata in Aotearoa New Zealand.
SAASIA is a national network of Samoan early childhood centers, spanning Auckland, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, and Christchurch. Our governing board, comprised of eleven regional representatives, is bolstered by the support of esteemed patrons. This diverse team brings a wealth of expertise in education, research, Samoan culture and language, the government sector, and community experience.
We offer a wide array of support services: from professional learning development and national workshops to counseling, mentoring, and advocacy. These services are essential to empower and equip our educators, ensuring the delivery of high-quality Samoan ECE services.
Rooted in Christian principles and organizational values, our main objectives span across four key areas:
Promoting holistic well-being and developing a supportive language policy for Aoga Amata.
Supporting the ongoing training of Samoan teachers, the use of Samoan language in the curriculum, and the adaptation of national curriculum guidelines.
Enhancing teaching and learning materials in Gagana Samoa and developing relevant educational resources.
Advancing early childhood education through research and the development of the Samoan language.
